I am new to this adventure and was wondering where to start. I have a Specialized hartail and would like to start trekking before XC. Any advise on where to go? And directions would be great. I am near the Oakland area.

Sorry, but I don't understand your question. Are you new to the area (dunno what "new to this adventure" means) asking for advice on where to ride? What's your preference/experience? Are you just starting out riding and looking for a mellow trail that isn't steep or an expert looking for technical singletrack?

Yes to all the above...starting out riding looking for something simple first.
