The difference in components and weight are pretty much negligible for those two as far as I can tell.

As for the suspension, that is a tough one. Both camps have their fans who will swear up and down that their bikes' suspension is superior. However, it all comes down to what you like best. They are both great bikes and you can't go wrong with either.
If you have the chance, test ride both and then get what felt best to you.

I have a Fuel and love it. I would not trade it for a Spec but when I tested the Spec, there was nothing wrong with it. It's a great bike. I just liked the Fuel better.

I vote Specialized. I tested Trek Fuel ex 8/5 and Remedy 7 and in my and my wife's humble view the "geometry" of bikes was mediocre. They all felt like our Trek hardtails (6000 and 4300) . This is OUR personal opinion so no flaming.

I bought two Pitches for $1100 each and never looked back. I upgraded the wheels/ tires/one of the forks etc. instantaneously. If did not have but two bikes I would buy a Stumpy or EnduroSL Comp.

It would be best for your to call some LBS and see whether they have any of the bikes above in stock to test ride.

both are a good buy, you need to ride them to see which suspension design you perfer.
I ride a pitch an love it compared to the ex that my buddy has pedaling wise, the ex is
a little bit more snappy and is more easly thrown around in the trails, if you are looking
for a bit more pedal efficiency i prefer the spec. fsr, good luck you cant go wrong with
either.
