I have a 2021 Fuel EX 5
Bike specs a Recon silver front 140 , I have the Gold 150, pretty happy with it.;

I would like to cut a little more weight if possible
So far changed tire out for Maxxis Rekon , tubeless. that shave almost 3.5 lbs off bike
pedal are now xtr spd ,
Bar changed out
bike is just over 30.8 lbs not horrible , but work in progress.
seat is a old one i have but its pretty fair.
I know most talk smack about the Fusion but honestly it has out performed my expectations, I am not in a hurry to change it, I like the ride pretty well. I watching for a good buy on a fox but not in a hurry.

Ergon 3 Grips on list for next change.

Whats the next logical upgrade??

Tokens maybe next ? cheap and useful .
Ergon 3 Grips might be nice to have.

Trek rims on this bike are heavy
The rims I have are 35mm internal, I really like the 35 width, so i want to say close to 35 wide not under 32.
I don't object to light aluminum, i can lace them up if i need to?
Front hub not sure it should make the list? Is there any wt of function advantage for front hub?

Back hub i want the 105 points of engagement, which hub????
and again which rim
I want it close to 35mm, a light but strong aluminum or mabye carbon? Im a touch nervous about carbon duribilty

At the moment cash is a little limited?
is there any other basics i might have missed.

Best place to save weight and make the bike feel faster is wheels and tires.

You've done the tires so only the more expensive piece is now left. Look at the Bontrager carbon rims with the 108 POE hubs, light strong and have a great warranty.

You're heading down a very expensive rabbit hole. I know, because I've done it before. You're looking a a lot more money to get light and durable parts throughout. I'd suggest the bontrager carbon wheels as mentioned by others. The tires and going tubeless were your best and cheapest upgrades. Those alex wheels are probably heavy. No personal experience with them though. The Fuel EX's that come with carbon wheels like I have on my 2020 EX have an internal width of 30 mm which will support up to a 2.6 width tire just fine.

Old thread I know but did you ever get you bike down to 30ish while maintaining i35 rim width. I just built up my new to me Fuel EX 7 and at 31.3 with pedals. Stock Rim but XD and GX cassette, GX carbon crank and GX AXS, Carbon bar, Pike Ultimate. I am going to ride more before I do anything with wheels but am a little of a wheel tire junky so want to try i35 with 2.6 tires.

Haven't got enough trail time on this particular one yet but in general I have ridden several of them the old ones were ok at best the modern DebonAir versions have been good for me. Not sure it is DebonAir per say but these newer ones great small bump and still supportive throughout the travel. I have another one on a Chromag and being a Hardtail the fork is so important and it sbeen great on that bike. Easy to tune also compared to the Fox 36 I have.
