Thanks in advance for any help. I'm deciding between the Trek 4300 and Gary Fisher Wahoo. Please offer your opinions on these two bikes both in terms of quality and reliability. Pros and Cons of both bikes?? I will be doing most riding in Chicago on paths and streets, but would like to be able to ride some trails on occasion. I do not plan on doing any modifications at this point so I want something with the good quality for what I'm spending.

Again, thanks for any suggestions! Also, if you think of another bike in the $300-$350 price range that I should check out, please include!

4300 vs. wahoo

don't know if you're still trying to decide but if you compare the bikes side by side (which you can do by going to both their websites), you'll see that almost all the components are the same, and as you aren't going to be switching anything out you're not going to have a problem going with either one probably. the only difference seems to be the fork and frame, which you won't find too much discussion here on the insync fork on the trek. for the rock shox on the fisher, most who didn't expect more than what they were paying seemed satisfied with them. i haven't found much to allow for a comparison of the frames but assume they're comparable. the ratings of both bikes overall over the last couple years on this website seem to slightly favor the fisher.

as a first time buyer i had the same choice and went with the fisher, with my decision tipped by such all important factors as style and that in my area everyone and their dog has a trek. if you find that one is less expensive (most likely the trek), you might as well just save the cash and go with that.
