I think this kinda stuff is cool as long as it's discreet.

Friend of mine in college had one in his living room. Decorated it with smashed bike bits, items found while drunk, drawings, purloined x-mas lights, etc. I liked it then, and I like it now.

I've seen these things in several places... the only one that didn't look like trash was on a trail near Carbondale. The only reason I didn't consider that one trash was because it had some pretty cool old vintage mountain bike parts.

If that is the tree I think it is (HWY 50 NV), someone cut it down last year... Although it was just a matter of time before it succumbed to the weight of the 1000's of shoes in it!

East of Fallon, NV and yes, some scumbag cut it down last year. The bulk of that old Cottonwood would never have yielded to the shoes.

This one's on Stinking Springs Loop at Phil's World. More of a classic ski area panty tree than bike art

It's trash, but there is a place for it; like ski areas, where the trash can picked up. I like the bird house idea (or bat houses).

Trees are more than just a tree. They're an ecology to themselves, hosting a multitude of living communities, from macro- to microscopic. Give respect where it is due. The same thing goes for tagging trees.

Or let Carl Sagen, Bill Nye, and company explain it.
