Would you rather have 4" of travel and 8" of confidence, or 8" of travel and 4" of confidence? Asking for some friends.

The latter choice usually means less broken parts.

On the bike or the human?
On the bike or the human?
Both of course.
Does confidence equal experience?

Asking for a friend ;)
Is the use of a cheater allowed in this scenario?

Shouldn't "Confidence" be measured in lbs/kg?
At this point...I'll take the travel. Confidence and my riding abilities are two different things. "Your ego is writing checks your body can't cash". -Captain Tom "Stinger" Jordan

I have found in most cases that the skill of the rider is more important than the tech of the bike.

Better bikes can make you a better rider, but personal growth of skill and experience wins out.

Some riders can climb a hill faster than me on a 40lb beach cruiser and could probably rail it downhill faster too......

Suspension travel doesn’t really give me more confidence. If it is within my skills or the risks aren’t too high, I can do it on my hardtail (mind you, it is a Honzo ESD so not your typical old-school hardtail).

Just yesterday I went back to a gnarly move that I first found when I was on my hardtail. It was wet and slippery, nobody knew where I was (secret trail), and there was no way I was going to try it that day. I told myself I’d go back with my enduro bike and try it on that bike.

Well, yesterday I was there, conditions were better, and I analyzed and debated for a long time. I finally chose to walk away. The move features a steep, janky roll off a rock outcropping, with a 90 degree corner one bike length later (you go off a cliff if you miss the corner), then two bike lengths and a 15 foot tall, 70 degree rock roll that is in a no fall zone. Riding it clean wouldn’t take a lot of suspension travel — just commitment. I chose life.
