Wild and fascinating: Transcreta Race

The Transcreta Race is 1,100 km long and climbs 28,000 m in nine days taking it through some of the hardest and probably most beautiful countryside in Europe. It is definitely a unique challenge for individual racers in a true test of strength.

The race starts on the 20th of May 2006. For nine days competitors will wind through Crete's wild mountains travelling almost exclusively off road. The Transcreta race sets new standards in adventure racing, fortunately if nine days sounds too much there is a "shorter" event running at the same time. The shorter event tackles 600km and climbs 17000 m over five
days. Both races finish in the harbour at Agios Nikolaos on the 28th of May

Nights are spent at that days' destination. There are two packages available, the Standard Package which means camping each night or the Deluxe Package which utilises the local hotels. Both packages provide breakfast and dinner. During stages there will be a medical service standing by, racecatering and GPS supported coursemarking to make sure that you reach the end of the stage safely.

In both of the races riders can expect to face considerable challenges although when broken down each stage is achievable by a well trained and equipped athlete. However, both your body and your equipment will be pushed to their limit every day. So only those who are well prepared and motivated will cross the finishing line.

Whether you finish the Transcreta Race or not you will certainly have visited a beautiful place, raced against some committed people and made new friends. The final day concludes with a boat cruise for all racers to give them a chance to admire the beautiful countryside they have been travelling through without working hard for a change!

The Transcreta Race is the ultimate challenge for body, mind and equipment, an unforgettable challenge in stunning countryside.
