Trance X Build

A Trance X0 Medium frame showed up today and I'm going to build it up from many parts off my hardtail.

* Tora 318 Air - Going to service it and adjust from 100mm to 130mm
* Mavic 819 UST rims with Shimano XT hubs
* FSA Mega Exo BB
* FSA Cranks
* Race Face Dues Ex seat post
* Alligator Serrated rotors 180mm front, 160mm rear
* Shimano XT Front Der.
* Sram X7 Rear Der
* Sram X7 Shifters
* Truvativ XC Stem
* Truvativ XC Bar

For the brakes I'm either going to throw my BB7's on with SD7 levers, or pick up a set of Formula K24's. Pretty excited about building the bike up and riding again. I'll post some pics of the process once I get started.

sounds like a solid build.
Got the frame back from the LBS with the bb installed and they also serviced the shock to remove the 30 mm spacer. It's pretty cool, the fork did not have to be cut, so I should be able to rebuild the hardtail at some point if I decide to do upgrades on the Trance.

Mounted the wheels and rear der. today before having to leave. Planning to mount the front der and run some housing and cables tomorrow, should be riding by the weekend.

Quick question, what is the recommended method for determining the size of the chain. Large cog, large gear + 2 links like recommended by SRAM or do I need to account for suspension movement?

Thanks.
You should account for the suspension by removing the air from the shock and then doing the big/big + 2, but I was too lazy to do that with mine and it has been fine. It doesn't take that much time to do it correctly though.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a shot, I just want to make sure I don't cut the chain too short :)
I got my Trance X0 frame today. Brown Santa brought it a day early. I'm gonna start building it Thursday night. Can't wait. :thumbsup:

Sweet! Let us know how it goes. What does your build spec look like?

Last night I ran the rear brake cable, setup the brake and started to setup the front brake. Haven't been able to spend much time on it in the evenings, hoping today and tomorrow I can finish it up for the weekend.
sounds fun. I just put XT shifters on my '08 X2. Up next are some lighter wheels (used from a friend eventually, he's waiting on new ones. and in the far future a shadow RD. Bought a Single Speed today, so I'm sure that'll take up some time.
Trance X0 build

RS Revelation, WTB wheels, XT, old Hayes hydros, Truvativ cranks, Easton bars, Salsa stem and QR's. I'll post pics when I'm done. This is what I've done so far.

Have to have someone local to sign for the frame since they can't sell them online.
I called bobs-bicycles.com and was able to order it over the phone. I was told that Giant gave them the okay to blow 'em out because they will be getting 2010's in about a month. They only have mediums, and only had a couple left when I bought mine last Friday.

Looks good, I like the white theme. If you had cash to blow, a white ritchey WCS stem could look cool.
i still believe I have the best looking bike. ALL BLACK. So cool. if i could afford new wheels I'd get blue hubs and it would be SO sweet. I do need need a bit-o'-bling though.
Your ride is looking really nice!

I'll post them up tomorrow. Didn't get more then the front brake done today, long days at work.
Sweet. Will a medium be to small for me? My current ride has an effective top tube length of 24.25" and I feel a little too stretched. I think a 23.5" TT length would be perfect, but the Trance X is either 23" for a medium or 24" for the large. Do yo think the medium will be to cramp?

BTW, I am 5' 11" with an inseam of 32"

You're the same size as me. The medium is great, the large would be too big for me. I would prefer to be on the small side rather than too big. I'm running a 90mm stem. You could run a 100 or 110 to gain some extra length if necessary or a set-back seat post. There are some other threads in the Giant forum discussing trance sizing. You might want to check those out.
