While giving my ride its pre season overhaul I decided to ditch the big ring and go for a 2x9 set up. No bash guard at the minute, want to see how I like it first.
When I moved my top swing derailleur down to meet the middle ring the bottom of the clamp hits the linkage when the suspension is compressed.

Has anybody done this?

Would a bottom swing derailleur work?

Will the chain continually drop without a bash guard?

Any help or advice appreciated.

I'm not sure why you moved your FD position. Maybe you should just adjust the H limit on the FD and be good to go. The chain will be more likely to fall off without a bash during rough sections.
