the blurb under the bike on giants website says 5.5 inch travel... is it a typo i cant find any other site that lists the travel as such.

It's a typo. Good eye. If you click on Full Specs, it will show the frame as having 5". On the seat tube of my TX29, it says 5.0 as well.

Don't think so. Mine is one from the original model year. The stock fork is 120mm, so maybe that's what you saw.

Nope. 5" = 127mm. Unless you've actually measured rear wheel travel at 120 and Giant's marketing is adding a few mm's that aren't there

This is what I was referring to, don't know why I was assuming fork travel.
