Train Manners question

Please, I need some input here. I was doing TM at Lewis Morris this weekend. Once we finished, everyone told me I had to "try it out" (the new trail). Well, as I was going UP the trail, a fast (lots of attitude) rider came down the trail. He didn't use part of the trail, but rather cycled across the leaves, cutting around the trail. As he got to me, I said, "biker up." "don't worry, I said to the guy behind me, riders going up the hill have right out way." Then this, SOBE calf tattooed fella that couldn't track stand for sh***t said, "that's not actually how it works," And then sped off after I passed him. What's the right or wrong to this? And does SoBe even sponsor mtn biking anymore? Thanks

Riders climbing should have the right away over riders descending.

However, as we all know, its not a perfect world, and not every one always does what is right and proper. Most will also find ways to justify why they're right and you're wrong.
Climbers Have the Right of Way

Climbers have the right of way for the simple reason that it is more difficult to restart climbing.

Happens way too often

I ride LM all the time and was knocked over by some guy blazing down a hill as I was climbing. I was quite annoyed and was about to say something to this guy, but said to myself, what will it get me. Just bit my tongue and continued on. I have had several close calls here with the same problem. It seems that most people do not understand what is proper. I have been so tempted to ask this very same question here many times. It has ALWAYS been my understanding that down hill yields to up hill, period. It is far easier to continue on after a stop when you are going down hill, but the same is far from true on the way up. I have encountered a few riders that do the right thing, but there are far too many that just do not know. Just my 2 cents.

The world according to .....

I too give the climbing riders the right. It may blow my downhill run but only for a second. As far as what is right and what is wrong... I see things that just make me shake my head anymore. So many people saying and doing things as if the world revolved around or owed them. It can be so rude that I just have to laugh. We can only do for ourselves and hope to influence others by our actions. Let the water roll off the back.
definitely agree with everyone on this. For someone who seemed serious about biking he has very little knowledge of trail etiquitte 101.

regardless, how was the trail?
Rain oh yeah

Nice wash out today would make non-rooty new trail shape up really nice... Today I worked in the rain all day...
Thanks for coming out man...

IME, LM has some of the worst mannered riders of any place in NJ. Probably becuase of the high number of riders. I get more waves when I road ride than from people in LM. Allamuchy is probably the most friendly.
Allamuchy gets respect

Most people who ride Allamuchy are outdoorsie people. Besides, ya never know if that other biker knows the way out of Allamuchy. I could easily get lost in that place. Smiles
