I'm thinking about making a weekend trip out to Charlotte with my son, and would love to bring the bikes. I'd be looking for a mountain bike trail that is pretty tame for Jr, he doesn't have much experience. If we come we would stay with family in Concord.

You might have good luck with the lake loop at the Whitewater center though there is always a good bit of traffic and you have to pay a couple bucks for parking.

The green loop at fisher farm is close to concord. He may have to walk a few times but I see young kids out there quite a bit.

Jetton park in Cornelius has a mile long trail that would be great.

North meck could also be an option as it is pretty tame.

Use the tarheel trailblazers website to look up exact locations and reviews.

Hope this helps!

Depending on the age of your son ...

I've taken my 7 year old daughter and 9 year old son on Hawk Loop at Lake Norman State Park .. she rides a 20" single speed and he is on a kids Specialized mountain bike. They have to walk up a few hills but overall have a great time.

Not sure about North Meck recommendation. I've ridden it only once but I remember it having a lot of roots ..

Have fun!

Sherman Branch is not far from Concord. It has a few loops. The main loop isnt too bad. Might have to walk a few little spots but I've seen kids as young as 5-7 out there with there parents. Also, Harrisburg has a small trail that is very kid friendly. I havent been there in a while though. Another option would be N. Meck Park. Very flat and mostly smooth.

talk to these guys...Tarheel TrailBlazers Charlotte's Premier Mountain Bike Club

Good luck

We ended up at N. Mecklenburg, and had a blast. Fair amount of roots, but not bad overall, he did great. Next time we will head to Lake Norman I think.
