[Finch Platte]

Met up w/ the Ogre and Corey at New Hogan yesterday, for a brilliant ride on the overgrown trail network. Unless trailwork is done on all the trails, it will soon be unrideable out there. Lots of thistles on certain sections- yow! I hate getting thistles stuck in my knuckles!

Ogre heading out (pic 1) and riding amongst the flowers (2). Towards the middle of the ride, his grass-laden derailleur bumped against a small log, and quickly flipped around to the top of the cluster, breaking off cleanly (3). Here (4), he and Corey begin the ride back. Fortunately, Hogan has several options on the way back- there's a lower trail that's a bit quicker, perfect for times like these.

There was a huge group of Cub/Boy Scouts camping at Oak Knoll, and they had gone out on the lower trail and sanitized about 1/4 mile of the beginning of the trail, scraping the sides and sweeping all the dirt off. Useless.

And a few more...

Where water was trickling, flowers grew, creating streams of gold (1). Strange creatures lurked in the streams, ready to pounce on unsuspecting riders (2). And pics 3, 4 and 5 need no captions.

Best ride ever, guys. Remember, derailleur hangers are replaceable only if you're carrying a spare!

Awesome greenery! I bet the smell was incredible with the flowers blooming. Those pictures are excellent and especially love the one of the dogs in the flowers.

Hogan is in NorCal- Calaveras County to be exact. Not far away from the world-famous frog jump in Angel's Camp.
