-checkin out manitous forks on their site, where there is an option to list their forks by types of riding. one of the types is trail/enduro. does this mean singletrack & riding on the road? I think an enduro motorcycle is a dirtbike that is set up to ride on roads too, so is this what they mean?

Enduro is sometimes misunderstood.

An enduro motorcycle is more along the lines of Honda's XRs, or any dirt-only racing bike that has gearing suitable to fast trail riding. I raced enduros for 20 years, and it is a pretty grueling sport. Most enduros go for 75-100 miles in what is often some pretty gnarly terrain. The motorcycle you describe is a dual purpose motorcycle. Some are more or less capable in real off road situations. Trying to categorize mountainbike forks in the manner indicated by those terms is pretty hard to do. I'd look at any mountainbike fork in at least this term--30mm stanchions. If you at least get a fork that has 30mm stanchions, you get somewhat of a substantial foundation for most any kind of riding. Even if I had a hardtail or a 3" travel XC bike, I'd get an adjustable or shorter travel 30mm stanchioned fork.

enduro style forks are light weight long travel forks designed for long technical trail rides. usually have 4-5 inches of travel, and weigh just a bit more than XC race forks.
