That is the question?

I do not run "big" rings on any of my bikes, so the fat bike will be no different. The big ring will be getting removed.
How many of you run a 2x setup with a bashguard? How many ditch the big ring, but leave the middle ring unprotected?

While there will be snow riding during the winter, I'm in Indiana so much of the riding will be singletrack in the summer.

I'm kinda leaning towards bashguard, just to be safe.

picked up a salsa ring dinger for my pugs.
not really concerned about 'bashing' (although i have used the outer ring to claw over logs...) - but i noticed in the snow i had a tendency to snag my right boot or gaiter on the outer ring (since the chain was never on it) when bailing out in deep snow or sometimes just standing with 1 leg astride the bike. ring dinger makes this a non issue. (as would if I just removed the outer...)

There's a difference between a "bash" guard and a "ring" guard. I run a ring guard on mine. Keeps my pants directly off the ring, keeps things in line pending a der adjustment malfunction, and offers some measure of protection in case of a log or rock mess up.
