TNT Sultan, Free to a Good Home

Translation: it's got a new home and it was a Christmas present, so it was free.

I've been reluctant to get rid of my TNT Sultan as it's still a great bike. I don't need two FS 29ers though, so I finally came up with the idea of giving it to my son-in-law for Christmas. Parts are a mix of my old Sultan's stuff with most of the drivetrain from my son's bike. My son's on a Mormon mission to California right now so I'll need to replace his stuff before he gets back.

We got Randy fit on it before he needed to head back home to Logan but we were too busy to ever get it out for a ride. My son will be home from his mission in May so he'll be able to ride his XXL Sultan which was a demo at Interbike 2006 and Randy and I will be on our large bikes. I'm looking forward to getting out on some multi Sultan rides this summer.

The gift that keeps on giving...good stuff Bob!!!
Did I read for comprehension correctly? Is that a XXL Sultan underneath him? Wow. I wouldn't have even guessed those were 29" wheels.
Yeah, he's a big kid. Left for his mission at 6'8" and he thinks he's grown an inch out in Cali. He hits his head on door frames now when he forgets to duck. Here's another picture with a friend of his who is a more normal size.

Stop feeding him now! Wow, how tall are you? Nice Sultans, you're new blue is very sweet looking.
Get him off a bike and put him on the basketball court -- serious
What a nice thing to do, congrats Bob:thumbsup:

Do you have any room in the family for any more sons/in-laws?:D
The blue Sultan is a bute!

Congrats to it's new owner. The DW looks a lot different. So much different...angles, geo, etc, that I would guess this is your knew race bike. Did you race the TNT? Which is more comfortable? Any reviews?

I'm just under 6' 1". I'm long limbed for my height and my wife has a long torso for her height (5' 9"). My son seems to have inherited my wife's long torso and my arm and leg length. That day in the desert when aliens bombarded us with gamma rays may also have had an effect. :p

That blue TNT Sultan was in my mind, my best looking bike ever.

He's pretty good at basketball. He has a bball scholarship waiting for him when he gets home.

I used to race a lot if not particularly well. The last bike I actually raced on was an Ellsworth Epiphany. Even though both Sultans are quite a bit heavier builds, I'd prefer to race on either Sultan because I think I'm that much more efficient on the 29er wheels. Comparing the two bikes, I think the DW is just a little more active and efficient, especially on climbs. If I ever do another 100 miler off road, I'd use the DW for sure. If I had both, I might use the TNT for shorter courses, but I'm not sure. My DW frame is a skosh heavier, and I have it built with considerably heavier cranks, tires and wheels. If I race it, I have a light wheelset and old set of XTR cranks I'd put on just for the race.

I do prefer the cleaner lines of the TNT Sultan asthetically, but I like the ride of the DW enough that I'll ignore the busyness of the frame. The TNT is no slouch, however and it was a little agonizing deciding to get the DW just a year after I bought the blue bike.

Good man, Bob. I'm with you on how you compare the two. The other difference besides climbing, is that the DWL version can descend the rough trails a lot faster, IMO. Maybe it's a bit slacker? I forget the geo on the older Sultan. I was sort of blown away on my first ride. I almost bought the TNT Sultan when they were on sale but waited and picked up the DW version instead. It is a bit wet/snowy right now will let Darren at PUSH work his magic on it soon- Reba and RP23.

You can't teach height.

Agree.

Not that looks matter, but the previous generation Spots and Sultans just look 'right'.... especially in blue for some reason.
I want in on the "All Sultan" ride in Utah. Let me know when and where. I'm around the SLC area.
