Yeah I was considering one for just fun riding, I already have a good DH bike, but maybe take some of the parts off of my XC bikes(although I have tricked them out so there are not really XC anymore) and put them on a Tirade Frame. I rode a tirade for a while. Was a good bike. My only gripes: Short seattube, and short cockpit. The seatpost had no room for adjustment. I had a medium frmae and the TT felt way small. I probably could have ridden a large.

i bought one for 1100, the Tirade 5 2004 off ebay brand new, its a good bike, the only things i dont like are the brakes, the hayes i would rather have the avid mechs, and the tires are kinda slow other than that its pretty good, the fork is a little plush

I have a tirade. its the 3.0 model and it has worked well for me. I would say that the weakest point on the bike are probably the deralueres. The brakes are pretty good and the fork is nice for aggressive xc riding. The overall value is good and a bike worth getting if its not too expensive. I wonder if you could pick up just the frame somwhere?

Mmy Friend and I both purchased 2004 Tirades within two months of eachother, and we both putour tirades through some fair abuse, but trust me, I know these bikes. My Tirade pedaled like crap, barely ever shifted correctly (due to poor chainline issues which are nearly unfixable), the rims both severly flatspotted, I blew out the rear suspension linkage twice, and the seat broke within one month. The best part was the brakes though, one mud run and they were pretty much shot forever. My friend had better luck, the only part he broke was the brakes and the seat, that is, untill his frame snapped at the poorly engineered seat tube/shock mount junction.

Wow, I am amazed at my own stupidity. I am sorry I have a lithium not a tirade- so far so good no problems. I don't have any experience with the tirade but I wouldn't trust any review that said any bike (except a super cheap one) sucked completely. In my opinion you either got somekind of malfunctioning bikes, you used them for things they were not meant for, or don't know how to maintain a bike. Maybe you just had some bad luck? 
I have seen them at supergo for $700, so unless they really are terrible (which I doubt) this seems like a real good deal. my $.02
