A little pre-race bike porn for ya... The tiny pink WW now has Industry 9 wheels. The bike behind is her old 90's something Klein Attitude (replaced dropouts/repainted) in SS mode.

You you feel that the fit and handling compromises you made just so you could go 29er are worth the trade off?

I am guessing that it was...otherwise they would not have put such nice/expensive wheels on it.

Do you often walk up to new parents in the park and tell them their baby is ugly?

How do you know fit and handling compromises were made? Other than the taller bar position (which could be set level) I don't see any differences in terms of fit.

As to the "handling compromises" how would you know absent being that rider's size and riding that rider's bikes???

Very suspect, troll-like post.

No compromises made, thanks. Walt crafted an excellent fitting and handling machine. The numbers used for the fit came from another bike, not the Klein, so please don't start comparing these two bikes too closely.
If you're just making a stab at small folks on 29ers, or 29ers in general, you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm 5'8" and ride a 29er exclusively and honestly feel it's helped me become faster over longer distances. She's 5'4" and rides up to 3 bikes during a 24 hour race, only one of which is a 29er. She knows when to ride the 29er and when to not.

edit: In an attempt to keep this thread on track... The Industry 9 wheels are nearly a pound lighter than the Cane Creeks. The rear wheel weighed in at 986 grams!

With so many great custom builders out there and with effective communication between customer and builder being so important -- why in the world would anyone buy a frame from you? I think I'd rather buy a Turner...

I'm not trolling at all - just a simple question I was hoping to get a non-reactionary adult response to. (which I got from pisgah, thank you) I also never said the bike was ugly, Unit. Go back and read my post again. Maybe you think it's ugly and were 'projecting'?

Honestly though, I think 5ft 4in is too small for a 29er. You have longer stays, you have toe overlap, and a short stem on a steep head angle which must feel incredibly twitchy (although kudos for going with the WB thru-axle which has slightly more offset than the QR) and a high bar position which must make it impossible to weight the front end on seated climbs or get adequate leverage during out of the saddle climbs - it's just something I wouldn't build, so naturally I'm curious as to why someone else would.

If the fact that I have opinions or want to encourage discussion loses me customers, I can live with that - there's plenty of people out there who want their frame designer to actually have ideas and stick to them, and why shouldn't they?

Anyway, I have Gastro so I really shouldn't be infecting my keyboard like this, and the discussion is obviously not about the bike but the wheels, so best not to do any thread hijacking.

On that note, do like the wheels. Very swanky. I may hit VentanaOz up for a pair in the near future (esp if I can get a gold to orange fade!)

I saw Erinna on the WW at Cowbell and it looked great! I want to talk with her about helping her those 80 hours in! My saddle needs some pink friends and the Kings are just a little too pale pink for my liking.

I hate that she had a bad day though. :(

Charles,

Everyone has a bad race day every now and then. She's allergic to bees and got stung on her first lap. A couple of benadryls later, she wasn't feeling the whole 'race' thing. The way she looks at it though is a bad day of racing is still better than a good day at work.

Anyway, thanks for the complements. She's really diggin' the wheels. We did Heartbreaker yesterday and she flew up that hill. The bright pink is mesmerizing...

Preliminary DD plans have begun. Come on up and I'll give you your tap back!

LOL! I forgot about the tap! You might as well hang onto it until DD this year where we're likely to have a WW reunion :D :p  I may actually get up that way before then -- I'm bowing out of ORAMM so I can stay local and catch a couple other things but I still want to make it up to Pisgah soon.

On the beer thing, the tap's not going to do me any good right now anyway. We got a new Revenuer and his apparently being a pain. My guys at Terrapin cannot even buy me a beer at a bar and then pass it to me from the bartender. That constitutes "distribution" and they're not allowed to do that. So, if they can't do that, they surely can't hook a brotha up! Oh well, guess I'll just have to buy it again. :madman:
