tightness?

So I cracked the dropouts on my bullit (which are replaceable). I am more or less positive it is not from me being the man and riding wicked hard but from over tightening the axle. The bike has aluminum 135 qr dropouts and I have a 10mm through axle wheel.

When I first got the wheel it would come loose so I put some grease on the threads and gave it hell. that doesnt seem like the best approach.

I want to start tightening my wheel with a torque wrench. Any ideas on what a good ammount of ft/lbs would be good to start with?

There's too much involved in doing a torque calculation to give a quick answer. Ask Santa Cruz.

FWIW, applying too much torque to alum dropouts using a steel thru axle is certainly possible, especially if the force of the torqued axle isn't spread out over enough surface area. Its more likely the dropouts were just old and cracked from fatigue though.
