Come one, come all...

...to a summer evening spin through Briones.

Old Dawg and myself will be saddling up for a 2 hour tour of some of the best fire roads and -ahem- Briones has to offer.

Rolling from Bear Creek around 5:30 or so. The usual loop is about 1,800' climbing, about 10-12 miles, very mellow pace.

This is a cross country mountain bike ride, but if somebody brings a bike with a Gravity Dropper seat post, we can post photos in the AM forum! :p

Of course, BYOB! You know I will...

I'll have both of my teens with me that night. I can't risk exposing them to your nebulous behavior on the trails...j/k.

If you guys have the time on Saturday, we're still looking for helpers for the trailwork day at Garin. I'm bringing my kids and if we have energy afterwards, we'll go for a ride down there.

Additionally, we'll be riding a family-style CC frontside loop on Sunday, weather permitting.

I believe my weekend is already spoken for, but I'll consult the oracle. The Garin park dealy sounds like a great way to press the flesh, so to speak.
Count me in, although 5:30 may be a push. Same place/ route as last time? If I am late I will try to catch up, assuming I can remeber the route, of course.

Hey Ed, glad you can make it!

Nope, NOT the same as last time...this time we're meeting at the Bear Creek Staging Area, on the west side of the park.

You can get there either from Martinez via Alhambra Valley Road to Bear Creek Road, or from Lafayette, taking Happy Valley Road to Bear Creek Road.

Coming from Concord, it looks like your best bet is coming south on 680, west on 24, and taking Happy Valley Road up over the hill.

Here's a map:

The red star is just south of the park entrance (shown as Briones Road).

Don't worry about the time, another bro is coming from Lafayette and he can't get there til about 5:45, so you'll have a few extra minutes.

Also, I'll have my cell phone with me, but coverage is spotty there.

i may be out there this afternoon, but don't have a ton of time so will likely go to the alhambra side..hopefully i'll see you guys on the ridge or something.

i'd still be interested in a ride and small pool party/bbq at my house one week if others think it's a good idea, i have to see what weeks i will not be travelling...
Hey Dick,

We are usually on the ridge by about 6 PM or so, hanging a quick right at the ponds...then back up to the ridge by about 7:15 or so.

We'll look for ya...
hey i think i may have seen you guys yesterday, probably about 6pm which would make sense if you got on the bike around 530-545...there was a group of 4-5 riders coming off the crest after climbing up from the bear creek side, heading into the 'narrower fire roads' in the woods. i was about 1/2 mile away, climbing up from the alhambra side coming from old briones road. was this you guys?? nice afternoon, not really that hot..i saw a large group of wild turkeys on the orchard trail near alhambra on the way...

Yup, that was us. We waited around a bit even though we thought we spied you coming up the Spengler near the lagoons but it was another rider. Too bad we missed you.

i think i was too far back, about 1/2 mile down the hill, for you guys to notice me. by the time i got to the cutoff for the 'narrow fire road through the woods' trail you guys were long gone. i didn't really have that much time anyway, just road up from alhambra to the radar towers and then back down along the creek and through the woods. another time...
