On my Thule 598s when new the arms could be put in a ~45degree position to then load the bike into it, however now the arms will drop down from their own weight which makes loading much more difficult.

Is there a built-in way of adjusting the friction?

Nevermind, I think I found it in the manual. Thules refusal to use words in their manual and instead just have weird icons for everything, I assume to make it language-agnostic, meant it wasn't coming up in search.

For anyone looking, it appears to be the 5mm hex head bolts on the underside of the racks, as per page 14 of the manual.
