I'm fortunate enough to not have to load up the bike/gear just to go ride (do enough of that with my motorcycles). Everyday, it's just point and shoot.

Represent your local scene passion :)

I might not have the acreage as you do out west but it is nice to have 14,000 acres in your back yard. Especially when your state only takes 45 minutes to go from one side to the other.

Everybody makes fun of a hillbilly until they need something fixed

Hah, great sig line! My dad, who was born in Alabama, worked factory maintenance for decades and did lots of hobby/craftsman stuff. He could fix or make just about anything. Wish I'd inherited a bit of that...

This is a good thread--I have to drive to trail ride--there's nothing near me. Ironically, I use my bike to commute and run errands--the main reason I still own a car is to haul my mountain bikes! Sucks sometimes...

F you guys! :madmax:
Cmon now, you have the mountain bike meccas of Wakefield and Accotink. With traffic, you could probably ride there as fast as driving there!

Huntington State Park. Under five miles of pavement and I'm there.

Some other stuff is a conglomeration of several small trail/park areas that are easy to link up. Closest entry is a half mile in - though it is then a loooong hike a bike slog in parts to get to the good stuff. Pedaling on the road to get to the goods is, again, under five miles.

One of the parkland areas has some interesting fixtures.

Also have a small branch of the state college in town; campus has some interesting things to practice my hack urban steeze upon, though I don't hit that up very often. Need to work on that if the trails get too hammered to ride this coming winter and spring.

Ha! You're absolutely right. And I was kidding when I told all you nice people to "F" yourself.

Living with trails in my backyard and having a dog follow me while riding is a dream of mine.

All these pictures you're all posting is research. Continue, please.

Also, baker... fountainhead and rosaryville are my spots. Wakefield and accotink maybe in a pinch. I'm relocating soon, believe me. No reason to spend your life in a car.

Good idea. After growing up in Fairfax and working at my first real job in Arlington, I couldn't get out to the open spaces of the West quick enough!

VWBob, your picture remindes me of my local trails here in east TN. I thought it was for a minute until i looked to see where you were located. I can ride down a bike path from my house 3miles or so and i hit Haw Ridge. It is pretty nice to live so close and the bike path gives me time to warm up the ole legs!

Those trails are in a local park here. None of the trails are "official" but over the years a pretty good network has blossomed. It's a blessing for sure. I'll be there tomorrow afternoon

Our home is on the NW border of the Australian Capital Territory and within a couple of minutes riding to reach the Bicentennial National Trail. Several equestrian trails join the BNT and one runs close to our front door. Rarely do I see a horse on these trails. Even less frequently, I'll see bike riders ... most of the traffic on the BNT close to this part of rural suburbia, are joggers and people walking with dogs.

The images are of the BNT and the equestrian trails within a 10 kilometre radius of home. Living beside farmlands and a couple of vineyards with forested ridges, and open woodlands make for good riding with kangaroos, sheep, cows and snakes. Plenty of deadly snakes. I don't like snakes and at this time of year I don't like clipless pedals either ... it takes too long to get your feet up around your ears.
