We all hear of "cyclist gets hit by car and dies" but this is the first "cyclist hits truck and dies" story I've run across. Not a lot of detail here but a tragic story none the less.

Bicyclist strikes truck, dies in Ahwatukee

A 50-year-old man died Saturday after he struck a utility truck while riding his bicycle in Ahwatukee, police said.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill identified the victim as Gerald Hickman.

The incident occurred about 11:20 a.m. in the 15000 of South Fifth Avenue, near Desert Hills Parkway.

Hickman, who was wearing a helmet, was riding behind a group of fellow bicyclists when he struck the truck, Hill said. The truck's lights were reportedly flashing when the incident occurred.

"It's just very sad," Hill said.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Hickman.

This just shows us all how precious life is and how it can change in an instant with just a little bit of inattention.

Yeah that realy suck's. Me and Chris rode by there just as the cops were ariving. Saw the bike under the truck and asumed it was hit by the truck. He must have been going realy fast.
