On a fixed gear.. for next year emailed rudi and he tryed to talk me out of it....

Anyhow was wondering about dates and such?
I won't try to talk you out of it, but here are two thoughts.

1) AZT 300 is pretty much on the opposite end of the spectrum from the GDR. Technical trail, hike-a-bike, etc.

2) When pre-riding the first 15 miles Rudi was heard to comment, "If anyone asks what bike is recommended for your race, it's not mine."

Not that it stopped him from attempting the race anyway.

I haven't determined the date yet, but it will be close to this year's start date. Namely, mid-April.

For something more similar to GDR style riding, and excellent prep, you might want to go here:

No official race on that route, mainly because it's hard to pick a date without knowing snow conditions. But it's a great ride..... especially in the fall.

Woha

Those pics of your bike on your back impressive. very cool post. I'll have to think about that ride... Might be a bit much with GDR next year. What I rode of the gdr was hard from a mental standpoint but not very hard from a bike handling and technal standpoint.

Anyhow I'll still be thinking about it. Do you have much experance with a geko 301 gps? Buddy of mine gave it to me after he got a new one. Found the manual online but wasn't much help past turning it one and letting me know there is a handlebar mount for it =)

Thanks much Scott!

Another Q for Krein?

I love reading about these races and I am already excited about the 2007 azt 300. Do you think you'll run the same/similar course as last year or will it be run on another section of the Arizona trail? Just curious.

Hey Dave--

The AZTR ride (that I linked) is more comparable to the GDR in terms of bike handling / technical. The AZT 300 is on a completely different (but parallel) route. I know, it's confusing.

No experience with that specific GPS, but plenty with Garmin units in general. I'm actually in Golden right now (not sure where in Denver you are), but if you want to meet for a ride sometime to talk AZT and GPS, let me know.

It'll be 99% the same course. A few of the sections we rode (and/or bushwhacked) will be changed or improved by '07 since work is constantly underway on the trail.
