The Naga people, sandwiched between India, Burma and China, have a hard lot.

But they make GREAT bikes.

According to the photographer "This wooden bike is usually meant for kids in Naga areas completely made from wood. The outer layer of the wheel is usually made of animal skin, but sometimes it is made of rubber. Kids have started using rubber. So the elder had a race making their own bike."

Note the brake pedal and the steering tube tied on with rubber.

Gotta say it's not passion they have but more of a modern way of going down on a paved road with a primitive bike. Beats walking.

Seen the pic and read the story before....... and I have to say it is a creative way for forest people to get around when they have no understanding of economics.

God Bless the indigenous people of Naga

haha

Is that a brake pedal?
Seems like a hilly place over there, so I'd rather walk, instead of pushing the bike up a hill. Unless they have road sections in which they could get halfway up with the speed from the descent.

Imagine the look on their faces when they see a mountainbiker riding uphill on a bike.

What I like about them is that they make fixies look advanced.

I'm just waiting for the Naga forum to open on MTBR.
