last night I flipped my crosscheck upside down to take the wheels off so I could put some fat ritchey tires on and I hear this rattle. pull out the seatpost. nothing falls out. looked in the drain holes on the stays and there is a piece of steel floating around inside the non driveside seat stay. too big to come out the drain holes but too small not to move around. I can't think of a way to get it out. surly's closed up shop til the end of the month so they can ride in beerlin or I'd ask them.

Can you superglue it in place? Might add a little extra weight, but will take care of the noise.

Here's an idea..

Fill all of your tubes with that Great Stuff™ crap. Not only will it affix the offending piece of metal in place, it will protect from rust and give your steed some emergency floatation capability.

might try that.I could probably wedge it into the bottom of the stay, near the drops, with a paperclip or something and drip some solder through the drain hole too.
