With all the recent questions about components and new frame builds, I thought it would be a good idea to have a set-up thread with all that info in one place for reference.

We could use one thread for all models or feel free to start model specific ones (ala Turner).

And as always, a photo wouldn't hurt either.

my soon-to-be X 5

My soon to be built X-5. Frame, cranks, saddle, rear derailleur, levers, chain and pedals are all brand-spankin' new and sitting in the box. The post, stem, and bar I cannibalized from my 1x1 (and replaced by cheaper parts) and are awaiting installation. The cassette I bought a while ago and used twice and put back in the box. The wheelset, headset, shifters, tires, brakes and skewers are still in use on my Superlight. Still have to buy a front derailleur - any suggestions? Should be about another month before I can do the build  , which is juuuuuuust about when things get really good weather-wise around here and the trails go from goopy, sticky, clay-mud to really nice tacky hardpack. :D I'll post built-up pix when done!

Frame: '04 19 inch X-5 with Fox propedal and quad bearings
Color: Superdust
Fork: '04 Fox TALAS RLC
Hubs: King ISO Disc rear, Hope XC disc front (both red)
Rims: Mavic X717 disc (black)
Headset King nothread (red)
Spokes: DT 14/15 db, brass nipples (black/black)
Front Tire: Mutano 2.4
Rear Tire Nevegal 2.1
Cranks/BB RF Atlas (black)
Chain SRAM PC 99
Cassette SRAM 990
Rear Der SRAM X.0
Front Der (undecided)
shifters SRAM X.0
Levers Avid SD 7's
Brakes Avid ball bearing disc
Bar Easton Monkeylite carbon 1.5" rise
Stem Thomson (black)
Post Thomson (black)
Pedals Time ATAC XS
Saddle Selle Italia Genuine Gel (black)
Skewers Salsa stainless (red)

Well, it seemed like a good idea...

This thread is pretty useless unless the peeps that frequent this forum post their rides.

The idea was to build a reference data base for current/prospective owners alike. Hell, maybe even Sherwood could this info to see how we are specing the bikes he builds.

Even if you posted in another thread, please post here.

If this was a bad idea, I apologize and will let it die.

I'm definitely planning to post my build here once it happens. I'm talking with Chris at Wrench Science tomorrow to hammer out some of the finer points and am excited to share.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting

Your photo is 385 x 288. It must be a higher resolution for the file to be that large. Looks like 300dpi. from the properties. You don't need that high of resolution to look good on the internet .

TomFL's bottom shot is 1024 x 768 @ 144 dpi.

The resolution of this image is 385 x 288 pixels. The ppi (pixels per inch) just depends on the image size e.g. if the image size was set to 2.6"x2.0" then the ppi would be 385/2.6=148 ppi. You can set the image size however big or small you like. The resolution stays the same (in this case 385 x 288) but the ppi goes up (smaller image size) or down (larger image size) accordingly. For photo quality prints the minimum ppi needs to be around 150 and the human eye can't resolve much above 300. For the net, less than 100 is just fine, so this image could have been made slightly larger.

By the way don't confuse ppi (pixels per inch) with dpi (dots per inch). dpi refers to the number of droplets or dots per inch produced by an inkjet printer. It has nothing to do with image resolution. Photo quality inkjets can produce thousands of dots per inch.

Because while the file size is the same as everybody else's your image size is much smaller. Try making it more in the 800 x 600 range.

Tucker
You have to increase your physical image size in inches, not resolution in pixels as implied above. Pixels don't have a physical size associated with them, so 800 x 600 is meaningless in terms of physical image size. See my other comments above on pixels per inch and you'll see what I mean. Obviously a higher resolution image can be displayed at a larger physical size without looking blocky. I know it's a confusing subject and it took me a little while to get my head round it when I first got involved in digital photography. Hope this helps to explain a little.
