But the racing is done on dhs no? I guess I had extra high hopes for this.
I know you have some concept of what an enduro race is, SDC. Mostly DH, most definitely not DH bike specific, most definitely an all day ride with some climbing between stages, and not pure DH courses.

Keep in mind, this is the first PERMITTED enduro race in Pisgah ever. Is there a chance it will get bigger/better after the USFS sees that it can be done?

Thought I was posting an old link to a friend who is leaving the flow trails soon and you slackers popped up. Thank you. This was a great mistake.

I'll go ahead and plead ignorance here. I have heard of enduro races and have a general understanding of the format, but am a little sketchy on the specifics. Does everyone start together and ride to the first timed section and then they do like an individual time trial on that section?

This sounds like good fun.

Stoke level = high.

I'm also interested in the format exactly. No racing on the uphills I'm assuming, so basically, it's a slow ride from the start up the first hill and then race downhill, right? Are there any benefits to climbing well, or is 100% of the focus exactly on the downhill?

Guess I should put that Lyrik fork on the Remedy for this one.

Here is the format:
There will be a neutral roll-out from Old Fort under police escort to Old 70.
Once on Old 70 you will be following course tape.
We'll go to Ridgecrest first. The climb to the Helipad from the bottom of Old 70 is like, 100 miles. Just kidding, except, it will NOT be easy or big bike friendly.
Rattlesnake to the ballfields is first up.
If you get to the downhill section first, you get to descend first. Racers will descend in 1 min. intervals.
If you don't want to wait in line, get in line first.
Then we'll go to Kitsuma. Same as before. FIFO.
Please remember there is a relatively significant climb on Kitsuma (during the timed section), again, not big bike friendly.
Then we'll ride allllllllllll the way to the bottom of Heartbreak, climb up the switchbacks, then the third timed section will be Star Gap to Jarred Creek.

Course map/milage/elevations will be available very soon.

I'm not sure I understand what "enduro" racing is. Just read an article in Dirt Rag and they said it's the same riding I'm already doing with my friends.??? I thought that was XC, lol. For some it would be ride at max speed for about a mile and take a 5 minute break. What kind of bike set-up are we talking about? What is a "big bike?" Man, I'm lost.

Enduro.
Timed downhill sections. Untimed, social pace, everything else. So, it's a lot like a ride with your buddies in that you can talk about the weather or whatever in between downhills. You don't have to kill it the entire time on course. If you've ever been on a ride with me or my friends this is exactly the format we follow. Climbing is what needs to happen so we can go downhill as fast as humanly possible. The only difference with an Enduro is there will be timing systems, stocked rest areas, and EMS personnel on course.
