The Mountain Cruiser. [O] New bike!

A while back there was a thread on a certain[due to legal reasons, I can't say the name in reference to this here bike] mountain cruiser bike from Mr. Mark Slate of OS bikes fame. So the bike has been renamed the Mountain Cruiser, cause, well thats what it looks like!

Here in the upper midwest, we've just been smacked across the face with winter (-5 this am, and not much warmer now), so getting this out for a shakedown run isn't going to happen for a while. For now it gets to sit on a nice, prominent perch in the shop and look pretty. I'm sure it'll hit some gravel later this winter, but that's not really a test, is it?

Drive train set up is 2x8. 11-32 x 28/32 shifted by nice retro XTR M900 and SunTour XC Pro. Velocity hubs laced to Salsa Delgado races. Avid BB7's. Fork is a Bluedog Custom, filletbrazed.

Had to get creative with the front derailleur cable routing. There was no hole drilled/tapped for a guide. I wanted to run gears on this, so I had to come up with something. An old[well, new really] v brake noodle to the rescue! Should work well, I think.

that's awesome!!
I shudder to think what a nice ti cruiser style frame might cost, but I DO want to know...

nice build!
sweet rig....

I wouldn't think you would have any problems using a noodle like that
Very cool Marty. Nice take on the cable routing, both along the top tubes (crossing and then tucking into the bridge there) as well as the noodle for the front shifter. You'll enjoy that bike a lot I have a feeling!
Super super sweet,

I would love for that to be mine.......:madmax: CF.
Man, I am such a sucker for the cruiser style bikes. I would just love to have that as an SS.
Jagwire Ripcord brake and Derailleur set in DirtRag Brown[really orangish though].
ca4346 and ca4347 are the part numbers for your local shop to order them from QBP.
Drilling and tapping that hole really isn't all that hard martini... maybe I'll have to take my vote back for Free Tubes...
Nah don't recall your vote! I've been wanting to do this kind of route for a while anyways, see how it works.

I even have all that stuff here, so I could have done it. That's the silly part.
Killer OX, I particularly like the cranks; they fit the build very well.
Nice bike, saw one a bit ago on the local trails.
ya, totally cool!

i dig anything cruiser style...

in my eye, bikes so often seem homogenized

when i see something with curves... well...it just makes me smile.

how much does it weigh?
Sweet rig. Proper WTB parts where they belong and first gen XTR, nice!

The only way this rig could be any better is if you could get roller cams installed and ditch the discs, but thats just ol' retro me talkin'.

Someday we should get the Blackbuck and this bike together for a ride. Heck, two Blackbucks and one OX. (Whoops! Am I allowed to say that? The Secret Bicycle Police aren't going to come down on me or anything, are they? ;) :D ) Anyway, Ben should get his down there too. Could be a real swoopy framed shindig right there!

Ah! But I digress! Enjoy that beaut. I can't wait to hear what ya think of the ride.
Nice write off Marty. Glad to see those bikes finally getting some love.

Rode one of those frames years ago when 29ers were just starting to be talked about. Question is are they still in business and producing frames?
Word from Mark is that someone is attempting to resuscitate the name. Other than that, I know no details.
I'm coming to the PdC to check this out personally!

And the sight of fathers locking up their daughters was seen all throughout the PdC region. :D

Well, that name won't do them much good now without the design that goes with it. ;)

Don'tcha think.
I think they got the design too Mark.

Find a reason Sean - and Bring the cranks witcha. Got a bottle of Templeton for you.
