I shot some video of "The Luge" last night. (Popular trail in Orange County, CA.) A big thanks to my actors.

Cool

You running both head and handlebar lights? You really have to keep close to the guy in front or the light falls off pretty quickly. That's sometimes a bit scary in the dark.
I have a Lights & Motion HID light on my handlebar and a digital Night Rider light on my helmet. You can see that the handlebar light suffers in the turns. The HID light makes the regular light look extremely weak.

I also had the angle of the helmet light pointed a little too high.

Next time I will try filming closer to a full moon and see if I can get my hands on a HID helmet light.

Plus I will have to do some serious tailgating...lol.

Just tailgate

I say dump the HID. The colors are much better with the other light. :) Nice color sensitivity with your camera, what is it?
I have a Sony DCR-HC30 (MiniDV) with a wide angle lens. I also used an Auto Levels filter in Adobe Premiere Elements, otherwise the video would have been too dark.

Hid

I prefer the color from the HID and I just use a handlebar mount. But my light, a Niterider Flamethrower HID + LED, is very powerful. I feel it is better than a car high beam. I ran into some others on the trail last night and they were quite impressed with it.

I try to stay within 1-2 bike lengths of the guy in front. But I've only done night rides on a trail I know like the back of my hand. And by now imjps, who is in all my night videos, knows my speed fairly well.
Nice ride!

Winston,

A real challenge & nice effort... think you're right about the helmet light being a little too high... but the video comes close to capturing that trail. We'll be hitting it tomorrow night. And, oh yeah, you should have added music to the track....he he he....
