I can see how it would be dependent on gearing. If your chosen gearing put the wheel further back in the dropouts, you'd have a problem. Looks like the cable clamp bolt is super close to the seat stay.

The dark grey spacers (the ones shaped like a half a ball, not the ones shaped like a bowl) go with their flat sides touching the caliper mount. That creates a sort of 'ball' on which the entire mounted caliper rotates slightly to fine-adjust the pad-caliper positioning.

If you cna imagine the spacers as letters it gos something like this:

[ ( CALIPER ) ]

Does this help, or confuse you even more? :confused:
