I'm a huge Trek fan, but Specialized got my $5000 this time because they had a real sale. I knew Trek's pride wouldn't allow for any worthwhile discounting.
Manufacturer endorsed discounting helps the shops carrying those brands make money. Trek, by only offering a paultry sale in this climate, hurt Trek dealers.
Its funny I put deposit on a Farley 9.6 once I heard the sale was coming. My LBS didnt know what bikes were on sale. Praying for maybe 20% off, had no problem spending $3K on nice carbon fatty.
TrekFest hits, I call my shop and right away the owner goes, "Guessing your canceling that order?" Yup. They did put note in the system that order was canceled due to bike not on sale. As I walked out of the shop looked at tons of Treks on the floor, sitting there not included in the TrekFest sale and just shook my head and walked out. As expected LBS reaction to the sale has been VERY lackluster with no change in business.
Me from the manufacturing (and marketing side) I think they listened to LBS feedback about not deep discounting the bike but discounting more of the accessories which are higher margin. But the lack of selection of bikes being discounted just doesn't move the needle for the segment of buyers looking to get something new from Trek. Feel the whole thing was just rushed after the good press Specialized got on their sale. But not even close.

Not seeing anything in Spesh sale thats a 130-140mm hardtail. If lady friend ready to full susp party, Spesh Status 140 for $2300 is deals of all deals at this moment.

I liked the Roscoe 8 so much I ordered a 9 and I love it — one of my favorite bikes ever, and at $400 off the 8 now seems like a good deal. I probably would have held off the 9 had I known the 8 was going on sale, pretty nice spec and for me the frame is a perfect fit — your gf should definitely give a test ride, she might love it too.
25% off at YT on all bikes and 20-35% off select bikes at Canyon, now those were sales! Unfortunately, they just concluded, but I think we will see another big sale after summer or towards eoy.
With DTC already having competitive pricing at regular price, these deals were quite good.

Fat bikes are also a very low-volume category. It's likely that Trek was smart enough not to go big on fat bikes during the pandemic whiplash and doesn't need to move excess inventory. Focusing on accessories makes sense as the margins are better, and many pandemic bike buyers are looking to buy accessories and replace wear items, rather than purchase a new bike.
There are some good deals here—that Dual Charger floor pump is outstanding for the price—but not as good as Canyon and Specialized's sales. While it may be a bummer to some riders, it could also be a sign that Trek did a better job of forecasting than its competitors and is in a healthier position heading into what is likely to be a stagnant sales season.
My prediction for the summer is more sales and lots of consolidation.

My dealer put their inventory of Trek Rails on for 20% off even though they weren’t in the sale. I was leaning toward the Fuel EXE but now I’m the proud new owner of a 22 Rail 9.8 GX. It’s a great shop. Felt good about the price. Fuel EXE maybe next year. I’d love to have booth. So some shops are doing more.
I was able to get some 90 dollar cycling shirts for 25 bucks at my lbs, not sure if they were a close out item but the retail tag still had the old bike shop name before it became a corporate store. Then I saw that they were built in 2020.
When I’m a different trek corporate store since there are like 4 in the greater Sacramento area. Got the same shorts but didn’t get the awesome discount like I expected. The coupon really helps. Just buy one item for over 20 bucks and just come back a few times. The stores should have a coupon handy.
The coupon helps to buy little items like tire levers, oil, and other accessories that are full price.

This is a low grade Canadian sale where things get discounted by 5%. Their dealers must be pissed and I assume Trek doesn’t have that much overstock to be discounting so little.
