Big props to everyone who finished and everyone who started. I had a blast, as always, and managed to improve on my results from last year.

Why in the world did I agree with extrmtao that taking the length of South Mills River out of Turkey Pen was a good idea? And why in the world did I decide to keep going up the river when he turned around at the first crossing? Horrible, horrible things!

Yeah, I'm not sure I should be allowed to play with Jonathon anymore  .

Coming back on 276 I was indeed cooked. My knee was refusing to pedal anymore so I was trying my best to one legged pedal...

Fun times, can't wait to do it again and again!

Hey Eric - did (uuummm wow...what would you say to ) this guy show up and race?

BTW - Farlow Gap was awesome, tons of moonlight, not too cold at all, but very windy... Big props from me to all the racers who passed by. For a bunch of guys having a horrible time you all were in good spirits. Believe it or not, while having a cup of tea at 7AM the next morning two local boys and their pack of walker hounds DROVE THROUGH Farlow in an old Datsun 4x4 and headed down Kissee Creek. I wasn't expecting to have to wear my orange - oh wait, wrong thread.

Sean and Jon's friend Micky gets the best support person award. You should have seen when Sean and Jon came in with just an hour to do a 475b/225/Cove Creek. The three of them worked as a team and after only 3 minutes, after a 50ish mile stage, Sean and Jon were back out, fueled, watered, beer'd and ready to race. They were so pumped that they actually made it back in less than an hour moving them from 4th to 2nd overall. Great Job guys.

I talked to Jons wife on Sunday, and she hadn't heard from Jon yet. I told her they were doing well and not to worry; that Mickey had it under control.
He did a great job! I think he even played the middle spoon, in a Pisgah-manwich to help them keep warm, but I'm not sure exactly what went on. I didn't ask, and they won't tell.

Great race! I pushed my limits like never before. Definitely the hardest race that I have ever done, much harder than any of the solo 24's. Thanks Eric for putting this together, I had a great time!

Here are some race hightlights:
- 34 hours on the bike
- Total mileage: 150 miles (estimated; exact mileage unknown since I crashed duirng Stage 2 and reset my bike computer).

Best moments:
1. Final downhill on Cove Creek to finish the Stage 5 and the race
2. Descending the snow/ice covered Blue Ridge Parkway from Pisgah Inn to Bent Creek Gap at 2:30 am on Sunday in freezing cold
3. Riding to Wagon Creek Gap with Dave during Stage 4. When we got to the top, he says: "Let's pick up the pace" and before I knew it he was gone and all I could see was his red "blinkie"
4. Dropping 3 teams on the climb on 140A towards Butter Gap to finish stage 1 (yes, I finally passed someone while riding the bike)
5. Moon pies at Farlow Gap during Stage 1.

Worst moment:
Stage 4, Sunday, 4:30 am: During the climb from North Mills River campground to Yellow Gap, I was completely exhausted (physically and mentally) and was considering pulling out my sleeping bag. I almost fell asleep pushing the bike, had to sit down and took a short nap. The rest is a blur -- I somehow made it back and finished the stage 5 hours later.

Fun weekend and a good excuse to spend 36+ hours in Pisgah in Feb. Congrats to all the finishers - really amazing accomplishment.

I had such an enjoyable horrible weekend that I didn't even pick up the camera at all on Saturday, choosing to instead enjoy the sun, the trails, and the ale (and not in that order). Friday night's shoot on Farlow went well, though, and I snagged a few shoots at the end on Sunday too. Unfortunately, (from a photography standpoint) the photos don't show the suffering and dispair that I had hoped to capture. Everybody looks like they out having a great time on a warm Sunday afternoon! WTF? Nearly 36 hours of riding and you're smiling?

Pics HERE

Here's Towelie..er Tomato after the dramatic pass on the climb up Farlow that was mentioned in the other TMHTE thread:
