Damn it, two events I want to do are both on the same day! Now I have to decide what to do on July 15th, the high profile Breckenridge 100 or the old school Crested Butte 100.
Breck $185 entry fee, and top competitors, course? pro awards?
Crested Butte 100 – no entry fee, no prizes, no bs. more single track?

If anyone has done either, tell me about the course. Let your voice be heard and tell me why I should do either. I've got all the beta I can find from the net and saw the post for the Crusty butt on mtbr, if anyone can add something more I'd love to hear it.

Thanx

What a difficult decision we both face...

I've ridden all the CB trails and damn they are hard to top. Some of the most pleasant riding on the planet and coincidentally where I started this addiction.

As for Breck...well, the main reason to choose that one over CB would be the competition. Not that CB won't have fast riders - it very well could attract some of the strongest riders in the area (and I know there are CB locals that can romp any hundy) - but my guess is there will just be a larger, deeper field at Breck because it is part of both a regional and national ultra series.

Both courses are very high elevation, lotsa views and such - but the competition factor is the biggest difference between the two events. If my decision was based on the course, it'd be CB - no brainer.

Competition

I haven't done the Breckenridge 100. I have done the Crested Butte Classic though, and I think that the level of competition there will be a little higher than perceived.

There will probably be a bigger field at the Breckenridge race. Last year in CB, I think that 50+ took off from the start. There were a number of top endurance racers there last year. These were riders who have won many of the biggest endurance races around. The overall level of competition was also very good. Racers competing for places in the teens were still going back and forth near the end, as oposed to grinding out a solo finish as so often happens in these events.

I think both races would worth the effort. I would just make the extra case for the level of competition being high in Crested Butte.

I chose Breck and don't really know why, other than I probabaly just wanted to sign up for something that weekend and stop being wishy-washy about my plans. I feel this June was all about indecision, for me at least.

Anyway all the Rocky Mtn. Dirt Centuries this year seem to be competing with one another, or at least close enough to one another to make choices difficult.

FWIW - B comes before C, and there is always next year.

You must choose Breck and bring 3 large oatmeal cookies from Bread for the NM contingent.

CB!

I believe the race is run out of The Secret Stash pizza joint. It will be supremely easy (and guilt-free since it's a free event) for me to stop after 2 loops and chow down and start drinking!

Even when I lose, I win! What other race offers that?

PS My goal is to finish 2 and start drinking before the fast guys finish all three...any wagers?

if we set up some conditions to the wager, such as slam a beer before each lap (including the start) then ....

I'll take that bet, and you;re going to regret....

Its out of the Brick Oven pizza joint and it's attitudes like yours that make the CB Classic such a classy and fun event, see ya there.
