Well we held our first race this weekend out in the wine country at Vail Lake Resort in Temcula, CA. The race was an informal challenge between the local bike shops. I would like to thank I.E. Bikes, Cycopath bike shop, and Back Alley Bikes for thier support and dedication to the Inland Valley's mountain biking. This race also served as a test bed for the new and improved trail systems at Vail Lake. With the rains Friday night the trails were awesome. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the challenge. We had top pro's and weekend warriors alike along for he race. The next race at Vail Lake Resort wll be on January 21st, 2006. This race will be a 12 hour endurance race from 9-9. Solos and teams are welcome. www.12hrsoftemecula.com

like a lot of fun. I've got to get over there and try that place out. Are there maps or recommended trails?
Vail Lake is great fun. These are great pics, but they really don't do it justice. The ridge top trails rock with lots of high speed roller coaster stuff. Here is the only map I'm aware of: 24 Hours of Temecula course map

Without any course markings it will be hard to follow. Exploring on your own shouldn't be too difficult.

Trail Marking

If anyone is thinking about heading out to Vail Lake. The main trail is 99% marked. It is mostly the same trail as last years 24hr course. I had to pull stakes down the initial lake road. But once you head up the damn climb the entire trail is marked about every 50 ft. I will leave all the temporary markers there until i can get the permanent trail signs up. I can't guaranty that the 12hr course or the 24 hr course will be exactly the same. But what fun would that be? :D

Vail Lake policies

Yes Vail Lake has changed thier policies. You can mtb on 95% of the property at Vail Lake. There are a few spots that are horse trails only. If you go there to ride you have to go to the front desk and purchase a day pass. I think they are 5-10$. You can ride all day plus use the facilities. Hope this helps.

Looks like 20 pounds

Competitive lap times at Vail start at sub 50 min for fast team riders to 1 hr plus for solos. 1 hr to 1:10 are good times. Of course 1:30 is great when you still have 10:30 hrs to go! hehehehe
Thank you, for the reply, it looks like I need to loose about 20 lbs to be on a good lap time. he he he. I had fun on the downhills I took my 5.5 out there, and it was the right bike to drop into the step downs on the downhills, you want a hardtail on the first part but I would not like it on the downhills.
I had fun good job on the trail.
