hey rick,
sorry I have been out of it for a couple days, my best friend is visiting from NJ. We rode Santos today, and that place was bad azz!! I was playing on the small dj's, hit the red trail, rode some boardwalks, a few drops, and ate it off a bigger drop. I want to go back, but DAYUM it was hot. I have to work part of this weekend, so maybe no riding. I will holla when I know anything.

what's up erik? i'm riding somewhere tomorrow night, but not sure where yet. probably morris bridge again, though. i like to get a ride in before the binge drinking begins. i'll be riding somewhere sunday, too, but i'll probably avoid alafia with everything going on there. i'm anti-crowd. i'm thinking the best time for me to get up to santos will be in 3 weeks. i have 2 weeks left of work, then 10 days off before i move. let me know if you're able to make the trip.

sirmalloc (matt?), you riding tomorrow (friday)?

how bout this weekend?

I created a xc bike! I took my older Joker, removed the jr t and put on a fox 125, lightened up a couple other parts, now I want to go try it out. I am wondering how wet alafia is going to be tomorrow. Did you hit MB this week? and how swampy was it?

I went to MB on Wednesday, right after a downpour, and it wasn't too bad. There were some good puddles on Indian, and the wet sand was pretty heavy, but it was fun. There's a new section of trail there, too, that's pretty fun since it's still kind of bushwacky. It's off the end of Washboard. I'm probably riding somewhere Sunday am. Boyette or Alafia. I could probably do an evening ride tomorrow, if you're down.

it's too far from my work to make any night rides there this week, but i'm free all of next week. i'm sure i'll hit mb once, though. also, i think i'll be doing an alafia evening ride on saturday, to avoid the morning crowd. i should have a couple of folks with me, if anyone else wants to join. it'll be an easy pace. i finally found the 'abyss' trail at boyette last weekend. it was pretty fun.

If you go riding.......

Try and be at the park gate at 8:00 when they open. What a huge difference, NO HEAT. Was actually quite pleasant and did not get too tired and overheated. This goes for anywhere you go riding.

That being said, I'm heading to Brevard, NC this weekend with some friends that are flying in tonight from London and Jamaica. We'll probably do Alafia tomorrow morning and maybe Santos on thursday before we leave early on saturday morning.

Can't wait.

That is an excellent point. These days, the earlier the better. I was there both Sat and Sun before 8am and it was great. Saturday was perfect, the sun was behind the fog and clouds until about 10am, so I got to ride without it hammering me.

FYI, if you have an annual pass to Alafia ($40), you can sign up with them for "Beat the Heat". They will give you the code to the gate and you can get there before they open and ride. It is a great option in the summer months. Just stop at the Ranger station and go in and sign up.

Have fun in NC

Thanks.....

I do have an annual pass and the last time I was there about 10 minutes before 8:00 and had to wait till they opened. That explains why there were cars already in the parking lot. One of them was probably yours......

Thanks, it is going to be a great trip. All guys, lots of beer, pizza, beer, beer.

I just started mountain biking so i'm not hardcore yet but i know what i'm doing. I'm 19 so if anyone wants to hook up on alafia or boyette just let me know.

Does anyone know what shape Alafia is in? I've gone only once and am looking to do my second run this weekend.

alafia conditions

As of Sunday, Alafia was niiiiice. gatorback was closed, but everything else was open. it was hot as heck, but thats because i had to ride in long pants thanks to a new piece of art on my leg. the crowd was minimal, the lot was about half full. if you have not been since they opened northcreek, definitely make it out this weekend.

alot of the trails looked a little worn down, mostly rollercoaster, but its all still rideable. Moonscape was kinda muddy but fun. and the new trail is just sweet. I didnt get over to rock garden but people where saying its soon to be a swamp just like part of the river loop( where the new trail ends if you make a right youll ride through 4 inches or so of water.)

I'm stoked. I'm ready to head out early to try to beat the heat. One question, the forcast says rain for the park area tonight (40%). While that may or may not mean anything, I was wondering, if it did rain would it be enough to shut down moonscape and/or rabbit ears (I'll assume that Gatorback will be closed). Coming from Gainesville I'd hate to drive all that way for nothing.

Okay, I'll start by saying that the North Creek trail at Alafia was awesome. I felt like I was in an amusement park for MTB. I can't imagine what's going to be added to make it better. Rock garden looked more like a creek with a couple of portage's. Once those were done, I found out that Weirwolf tires suck for riding in wet limerock. The entire park was open  , but going up hills were a slippery challenge going down felt more like skiing rather than riding. Again, I bailed on Moonscape. Couple hundred feet into the trail with no traction didn't inspire confidence (for me at least). In spite of all that I'm really glad I went. I needed a change of scenery.
