I have a long riser stem and bars on my AM/XC bike and it fits well. Just built a FR bike and everyone said go with a shorty stem. I am finally getting used to the lack of offset but I cannot get used to the lack of height when standing. I am using a 1.5" fork so my choices of stems are pretty limited if I want legnth or rise. I am running the highest rise Gravity Carbon DH riser bars but it's still way to low. I am 6"5" and need some suggestions as I just cannot get confortable standing on steep stuff. Anyone know a riser with some height for a 1.5" fork or anyone have general recommendations? Thanks

Hi,
I'm the same height like you and I has the same issues. My frame is XL St Trail and first I rode it with 50mm Diabolus stem. Then went to 70mm Diabolus and yesterday tried 40mm no name stem.
I observed this: with short stem It's ok when you seating but when you standing the bar goes very close to you and It's easy to go over the bar, you can compensate with shifting your weight backward but you must stand in sit crouching position which is very fatigue.
With the bars I'm with Nuke Proof 760mm/38mm rise and 9/6 degree - that degree(6) up in comparison with my previous bar(Burgtec RW 9/4) gave me 2-3cm higher position of my hands.
I want to try http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=49237 with 25deg rise but it's very expensive.
Look at these bars: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=31080 and http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-KORE-MOUNT...Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item563d3742f7 - they are with 50mm rise and are wide.

Short stems are the only way to go for FR/DH, unless you like going over the bars.

If you haven't already cut your steerer tube too short, I like running 2-3 large spacers (20mm high) under the stem. Cut it long enough to run 4, put 3 under and 1 on top, try it, adjust as necessary.

There are several high-rise bars out there: Tonic Fab All Time Highs (2.25 inch rise), Spank Tweet Tweets (70mm rise x 25.4 dia), Deity Villain 3s (3 inch rise x 25.4 dia), NS Bikes Proof (3 inch rise x 25.4 dia). It might be hard to find a 1.5 x 25.4 stem, so you may have to run spacers.

I'm 6'6" on a large reign x. I put a 70mm race face d2 and 1.5" diabolus DH bars works ok for me, sometimes i hit my knees on the bars in tight turns sitting down climbing on xc stuff. The stock bars were 3/4" rise and stock stem was 50mm and it was way to cramped for me. What I have now seems ok, i might go to 2" rise bars though
