ok have it narrowed down to either Yakima gatekeeper or thule gatemate pro for my chevy 2018 silverdao. it has a wide tailgate top. looking for opinions on each. favorable or not.

difference in price is like $10.00

I like my yakima pad. It works well on my '13 f150. Has better bike mounts than some other pads, and seems well constructed, but I mostly chose it because it has a big enough flap opening that my backup camera is unobstructed. No experience with the Thule, but I'd buy the Yakima again.

You should have asked to compare a tailgate pad to a 1UP. You would have gotten hundreds of responses.

The Thule GateMate Pro works well for me, great padding and adjustable fit. It looks cooler too, IMO
