Just keep at it and you'll see great gains
I've only been riding a year, and I really sucked when I started too.

Hey Deanne,
T100 is a really fun trail. But once you cross the 101/Dreamy Draw there are tons of even better trails that break off from T100.

T100 and the preserve area is quite rocky compared to other Phoenix area trails. Have you been out to Pima and Dynamite yet? That place is a blast. Smooth, rollar coaster trails.

Trail100 is the only trail ive been on..I moved here from Ohio almost 2 yrs ago and still get lost going to Walmart at times :p Pima and Dynamite are cross roads im guessing? I will definately check it out so i have something else to explore and something a little different thanks ! Is it something that branches out into other things as well or is it just a trail that eventually ends? Is it called something so i can look it up on the internet? Thanks

Pima and Dynamite are the crossroads and that is what everyone calls it. The trails (in North Scottsdale) can be confusing at first. It is a network of about 100 miles of really nice singletrack. I get really homesick reading this board because I moved away from Arizona to South Carolina last year. The riding out here isn't that great. It's really sandy

P&D is a fun place to ride but i wouldn't venture out there w/o someone to first show you some of the trails. you can't get lost cuz you can see the power line towers from almost everywhere. dale wiggins map is awesome but the trails themselves are not all labeled.

if you're willing to drive, desert classic at somo (south mountain) is a good trail. also pemberton at mmp (mcdowell mtn park, north of fountain hills).

go to your lbs and pick up cosmic ray's mtbiking book. it has many trails from all over the state with directions, descriptions and difficulty levels. it's what i used when i first started.

From the map posted up above, a good beginner loop at P & D is start on 2 to 10, to 13 to 16 (aka Dare-a-Sarah), to 19 and back south on 14 (aka West Express).

A little longer route is the same until 16, cut up to 17, then east on 21 (Brown's ranch), and south on Roller Coaster (it's all downhill and is a blast), to 15 (Bail Out) and back to 2.

Or ride the Power Line Rd 1 up to 23 ( the top of West Express) and take it to 14 and back.

On any of these rides it's a gradual increase in elevation on your way out and gravity will take you back. Avoid the Powerline Rd 2, it's a sandpit that gets deeper the further north you go!

Oh .. we have that book you were mentioning :) just got so caught up in exploring this trail and trying to venture further we havent really thought about another area yet until someone earlier mentioned something else to experience.. ha- we bought that book when we went on a mad buying spree for getting ready to begin riding , we started doing the canal for a bit til we got used to riding - then we took to the T100 ..thinking we were all that until i started walking my bike up the first flipping hill LMAO! i almost quit.. whined like a baby.. but told myself if i gave up- id be such a loser to my own self.. and continued and i know to a lot of you going to CaveCreek from 7th Ave isnt that big of a deal. but . i cant tell you emotionally how it felt that even tho it took me 6-8 weeks to get there hey i did it! But yeah, weekend from next we are going to try that trail and i cant wait! But until then, its T100 daily! Thanks for sharing!

Gotta start somewhere. My first mtb excursions were where you are riding. First few rides I only made it to 7th St and back, I walked up that blasted rocky hill many a time. Just keep at it, you WILL do better if you stick with it.

Good on you wanting to ride other trails. New trails help the adrenaline and keeps boredom at bay. Instead of driving all the way up to P & D, try starting on T100 from the 40th St. trailhead. Whichever way you go it is a bit flat to start and will give you a good warmup. And, as someone else already said, at that end there are a lot of trails off T100 to ride. Some easier, some harder than T100, your choice.

Kaboose is going to setup a ride for this weekend, you might want to join in. She will take good care of you and show you around. Don't worry about being new, we all were new and know how it is/was! And you become a better rider riding with others.

As intimidating as it sounds, you and your boyfriend should try and ride with people who are better than you. You really do learn a lot faster.

Kabooses rides are geared for the speed impaired(note her screen name). The rides I post are, too(note my screen name). And, we women are very patient and understanding about newbies, we like helping new riders. Honest. And, you can always bail early if you tire out. It is really fun to ride with others. Try it.

hahaha, you crack me up - but it's true, i'm not fast.

However, the ride i have planned for this saturday at mmp, imo, is not a good choice for a noob. the reason is because the sport/tech/long loops are one way only. if she'd get tired or over her head, she'd be committed. had i been planning on riding pemberton i would've asked her to join "fer sher".

DC, keep practicing; either aztortoise or me will post a C-ride you can join. and please do, it will be great meeting you.

What is a C -ride... doh!
A=Very good rider, or longer faster ride
B=A good rider but not great, long ride but slower pace than an A.
C=OK riders that ride slower and not as far as a B.

I am an average C rider. Kaboose is a better rider than I am but still a C.

DC, you would fit right in with us C folk. Sometime soon we will post for a C-ride, maybe in a week or so?
