Ordered a new 75mm F109 Syntace stem and installed it last night. I just kept thinking it looked longer than the Specialized 75mm stem it replaced. I got out the calipers and checked center-to-center..its 80mm. Yeah...I know...5mm but it matters. Anyone have any ideas? I have emailed Syntace. One other thing....it weighs a bit more than the weight stated on their website for a 75...I would think as particular as they are with testing, they would have v. accurate weights.

Are you measuring at the top of the bar clamp or middle of the bar clamp? A lot of stem manufacturers measure from the headset cap bolt to the top of the bar clamp.

This is a little late but somebody just alerted me to this post. Rest assured the 75mm F109 stem measures 75mm center to center. You need to take into account the fact that we have a 200 degree clamp face and that you are indeed measuring center to center. The 200 deg clamp face puts the front edge out a few mm past the center point. I also just weighed one here on my digital scale and it comes in at 103 grams(only 1g heavier thane advertised)

Kenny, thanks for the post. Here are a few pics to illustrate my concern. Pic 1. Specy stem on top the Syntace lined up on the steerer tube. Pic 2. OEM Specy stem that clearly masures 75mm c2c. No way they are the same length...the Syntace is an 80mm and it weighed closer to 110 I believe. Something isn't right here.

That is how Syntace stems seem to be.

I have a few F99 and they are all about 5mm longer than claimed. Approx measurement from center-to-center.

My f99 75mm is about 80mm when measured. Once mounted about 77mm from the center of steerer tube to where the handlebar is clamped. Mind it seems to be dead on 75mm to the middle of handlebar.

To me, center-to-center means: center of steerer tube to center of hbar. The first pic shows that the center of the hbar with the Syntace is about 5mm longer than it was with the 75mm Specy stem.

All stems vary. Even 2 of the same brand/model/size.
That is why pro teams mark them with the exact length.
You could have a long Syntace or a shorty Specialized or both?
At Specialized they call them "tweeters".
