How religious do I need to be about cleaning out the old Bontrager TLR sealant before replacing with Stan's? General wipe down or thorough cleaning?

I used both. Bontrager sealant is better at sealing than Stan's.

But no, you don't need to be meticulous with cleaning. Mixing is fine.

You don't have to clean anything out.

But I'd steer you far away from Stans sealant. It hasn't been worth a damn for years.

If you must switch, check out Orange Seal.

Gotcha. My problem is I have some non-TR Maxxix Ikons that I really don't want to have to toss because they still have plenty of tread left. I mounted them tubeless with the Bontrager sealant about 2 months ago and they are still weeping/leaking air through sidewalls / bead. Have mounted non-TR tires tubeless before with Stan's and never had the weeping/leaking air last this long. Pretty much have to put air in daily.

The weeping is almost certainly due to the tire. It will weep with Stan's too. The weeping itself isn't that big a deal. It's propylene glycol and rinses off with water.
