Switchblade rocker bolts/seatstay interface?

645 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Warp
So I was doing some cleaning and general maintenance of my '01 Switchblade last night. I got the rockers and bearings cleaned but when I went back to put it all together and put the 'blade in the stable for the night I noticed a little play coming from somewhere. I checked all the bolts again, good. I turned one bolt on the lower part of the rocker that interfaces with the seatstay and noticed that it got a little tighter and then loose. Yep, stripped part of the seatstay thread. Any chance of a fix for this? Retap and get a larger bolt? Red LocTite?

I really don't want to loose my beloved Switchblade.

Why not drill/tap and install a heli-coil?

that's a good idea...never thought of that before....

So anyone with drill/tap/helicoil experience have any recommendations? What size helicoil am I gonna need and will this make doing general cleaning and maintenance more of a pain?
looking to get a helicoil kit for this project. Any info as to what size the rocker bolt is? I see that it is a 5mm Titus specific bolt, BUT the thread and size must be a standard M? size. I'm pretty sure it's not a M5 x 0.8 bolt, but I might be wrong.

Those are plain M8 X 1.25 threads. I bought some of those bolts but 5mm longer to spread a little my Switchblade rockers to make space for the Romic shock I use.

You can use any 6mm socket head bolt. I use the highest grade I can find (12.9 if possible).

I put up a zip file containing the Service Instruction that were up in the Titus website back in the day.... I can't remember the thread... Let me know if the file attached works as I can't remember which one was the correct one...
