As in the title - is it possible to swap the standard hollow axle for quick release on a Shimano HB-NX70 dynamo hub with a solid one?

The exploded diagram from Shimano tech documents didn't tell me much as the generator part is not shown separated from the hollow axle. It's still unclear to me whether this can be disassembled. http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/t...HB/EV-HB-NX70-2134A_v1_m56577569830609001.pdf

Why don't you just put nuts on the hollow axle and shelve the QR? Dome or closed end nuts can cover the hole.

As I understand it, you gain little strength and can lose some (if you use a lower quality solid axle), as the main strength of the axle is in the outer part of its cross section.

If thats the case, I read somewhere about some QR that had some sort of keyed bolts.

Pitlock or similar locking skewers is the way to go. There are many brands, search for security skewer or locking skewer

Is this possible at all? Quick release hollow axes not only are much shorter than solid ones (enough to support the fork but not to thread the nut onto it) but also usually not threaded (as they don't need to be).

I do not have security in mind but stronger clamping of the front wheel. The dynamo hub will operate a large disc brake (203mm) and will be subjected to rather high load braking (usage in MTB), that's why I want nuts rather than a quick release skewer.

If you fear that it breaks or some kind of catastrophic failure, don't. Until a fewer years ago, before 15mm axles and even 20mm axles, people where already using 203mm disc brakes and QR without problems.
I use 203 disc brakes with a simple 9mm QR. I weight 130Kg and I do abuse them. The fork twists a bit ( which makes holding a line more fun ) but the QR holds up perfectly.
You should probably be more worried about the fork than about the axle.

I'm struggling with a similar challenge. I have a porteur rack on the front of my bike that has some serious capacity but...only if it's bolted onto a solid axle. A skewer (bolt-on or QR) won't do. For this reason, I've got an old XT hub that I put a solid axle in. Works great. Now I want a dynamo hub, though.

So: does anyone know of high-quality dynamo hub with a solid axle? ...or one that can have its hollow axle swapped out for a solid one?

the axle in dynamo hubs usually has a grove in it for the wiring. Not going to be easy to replace. In fact, it looks like the NX70 has an integral axle, probably for this reason. People have taken the higher-end Shimanos apart for overhaul, you have to carefully take the wires out of the axle

Shimano make many of their dynamo hubs with solid axles. There are a couple of examples ON THIS LINK HERE

I do not believe you can completely disassemble and reassemble a dynamo axle due to the extremely tight tolerancing requirements of the dynamo component clearances between rotor and stator, this goes for Shimano, SON & SP, the manufacturer needs to set this.
