Swap Trek Stache for Scott full suspension?

I'm riding a 2018 Stache 5 with 3" Minions. Terrain is flat or short steep up/down really rooty trails. I've never ridden a full suspension off road. I can get quite the deal on a Scott Genius 910 with AXS upgrade. However, they guy is nowhere near any trails. I took it for a spin the road and the tires seem small (2.6 on narrower rims than Stache), the position seems really upright, and pedaling is squishy without the twinloc locked out. All to be expected.

I am looking for a bit more comfort but will this bike be a lot more comfortable on the trails than 3" tires at 12 PSI? Are full sus riding positions generally more upright than hard tails?

It's a fair chunk of money, don't want to be hugely disappointed or end keeping the suspension locked out.

If you felt too upright you might prefer the next up frame size. Check the geo charts for both bikes.

Any full suspension bike will feel squishy compared to a hardtail. You'll need to dial in the shock for your weight before you can know if it will be too squishy for you in the open mode. The great thing about the Genius 910 is you get a middle mode for the rear shock that takes the travel from 150mm down to 115mm by closing off an air chamber. I've used that setting for the entire ride on mellower trails.
Thanks - only a medium available. If I put a longer stem will that screw up the handling too much? The stem is super short on there
I guess installing a longer stem depends on how much longer you need to go and what terrain you're riding. The stock 50mm is not considered short these days but going a little longer shouldn't be a problem unless you're riding really steep jank all the time.

Scott has a "Find Your Size" tool on their website. Plug in your dimensions and see what they have to say. SCOTT Genius 910 Bike

Their size tool put me on a large at 6'1" but I sometimes wish I got an XL for the longer reach and taller stack height.

Not a problem going longer on the stem, within reason. I wouldn't blink at 80, though many would disagree.

As far as suspension goes, it will feel less lively on a parking lot test, but will make up for it with less "hang" on rugged trails.
The question is how much is your budget and will there be a better bike in your size at the price range? It weighs about 30lbs. It has a flip chip to make it compatible with 27.5+ tires and new wheels. BTLOS has carbon rim builds for 700+ shipped.

Pavement is defo squishy. Do you think it will have less hang than the 3" minion on a hard tail? That's my concern - it's a lot of money to then realize it's not a big comfort improvement. Unfortunately zero chance to actually ride it on dirt before purchase.

Private sale, he bought a 2021 and is now selling, doesn't like MTB'ing.

Yes. I've got a trail around my house that is partly on an old cow pasture. My 60 mm travel Supercaliber has far less hang than my rigid Salsa Beagrease fat bike with Dillinger 4 tires.

It's worth noting, though you're likely aware of this, that it would be easy to re-sell in today's market, especially since it sounds like the price is pretty good.

DEVIL ON YOUR SHOULDER EDIT: Hmm, maybe I should keep the Stache AND buy this new bike, and have me a nice little quiver?! 🙃
