I'm wanting to try a shorter stem on my Spark. I remember something in the brochure or catalogue about an "integrated" stem. It doesn't seem very different from any other stem/steer tube interface, except for the odd ramps on the back of the spacers and upper bearing cup.

I'm guessing you can't put a different brand of stem on the bike unless it's got the matching angle to nest into the spacers. Most stems have an angle of sorts near the pinch bolts, but I'm sure they won't have the correct angle.

Another Syncros stem would plug right in, but I can't find any. I'm tempted to just shave the ramp off a spacer to accomodate a regular stem, but for resale purposes I don't really want to bugger it up, since I did a web search and can't find more of those spacers.

I'd like to just get another stem without having to get a new bearing cup and spacers. Anybody come across this before that could share their workaround?

That's the obvious starting point, but that cup that sits on top of the headset... I'm not sure if I'd have to keep that, and then if I did, with the ramp on the cup, regular spacers probably wouldn't sit flush.

Those spacers have to be round to accommodate the round steer tube, so they look elongated front to back. You may find a regular spacer will sit on without hitting the bearing cover ramp? Or it would just take a little bit of sanding on the new spacer to miss the ramp. Modifying a regular spacer seems like a cheap and easier work around.

Here is the elegant solution
Nice of you to drop this in. Actually, I think I'll be parting ways with the bike, so it's not a big deal anymore, but if I keep it, this will be handy.
