Hi

Any suspended fork alternatives to Maverick SC32?

Depends on what rim/tyre como that you wish to run.

Marzocchi 29er MX fork will work with Mavic D321 rims and Gazzaloddi 3.0 tyres.

some leftys will work. the SC32 is the best bang for your buck.

Anyone try one of the older shivers?
Not that I`ve seen.

Should be doable, but travel would have to be reduced by approx 35mm to prevent tyre/crown interface! :eekster:

This is easy to do with the Maverick forks as a specific spacer kit is avaliable and easy to fit.
i think the old shivers only work with the 3 inch tire.
Cool.. thanks.. I am in the process of collecting parts and info to build up a fatbike and the shiver seemed like a viable option. At 250lbs I was not that impressed with the mavericks stiffness...

I was hoping to build (I am going to build the frame) one bike that I can use as a 29er and a fatbike but it may end up full ridged.

JP
ermm, at 250 you weren't impressed with the maverick's stiffness, but you're looking into a shiver SC??
around here shivers were widely regarded as "light-duty" only due to their lack of stiffness...
but with 5" you should be more than fine dropping it to 4" and still having enough room over a 3" tire, but it'd have to drop to 3" or so to get over an endo without you... umm... endo-ing! ;)
Yea.. I have rode a Maverick but not a shiver.

I was just exploring possibilities but the Maverick my very well end up being a better choice combined with a diet and some p90x.
i was up to 225lbs. no gear and had no problem with the Mav. SC32.
I am soon to be a new fatbike owner and this forum has been a great help finding the information I have needed. My only question is has anyone used a Maverick DUC32 on their fatbike? I hope it will work because I just scored one off ebay for a great price. I also hope it is a little stronger than the SC32 because I am 6'9" and 240-50lbs.

Thanks

Hi Nolan,

good news and bad news regarding the DUC 32 I`m afraid.

First the good, I`ve had and ridden one in 26" form with no probs and I`m 260lbs.
You will need to reduce the travel with the Maverick Spacer kit, but this is easy to do and will leave you with approx 115mm travel. :)

Now the bad..... You can run an endo on a DUC 32 BUT you will have to use a narrower rim than the Large Marge (65mm). :(

The reason for this is due to the inverted `baseball bat` shape of the upper portion of the DUC`s legs, whereas the SC32s are straight.

Endos on LM rims measure approx 92mm (YMMV) and the clearence in the upper portion of the DUC is approx 94mm (just measured in my garage). :eekster:

Any tyre or rim wobble or both and you are going to get rub.

You could probably get away with a smaller (say 50mm) rim with an Endo, but I would wait to see if anyone has figures for this combos width before commiting.

I know Tscheesy ran a DUC on one of his `Snaux` frankenbikes, but I think the issues were the same.

Cheers,
DR FG.

Shiver works for me with the Gazzi and Remolinos but NOT with the Endomorphs

The "Shiver" seems like an appropriate fork for a snow bike based on name alone, eh?

ROFL - How could I have missed that analogy?
Thanks for the detailed response Dr Feelygood, much appreciated.

Now my next issue is finding a rim that will fit the DUC32 without an endo rubbing.

I talked to Greg at Speedway and he said that the 50mm rims he sells would not be a good choice because I will be riding the bike year round and it may not hold up (especially in New England where the rocks are endless).

Greg mentioned that the Echo trials rim would be a good choice because they can take a lot of abuse and they are 46mm wide. My concern with these rims are the double-walled design with the holes drilled out could trap a lot of debris in between the walls. Has anyone used these rims before or heard anything about them?

I know the Kris Holm rims are 47mm wide but I haven't seen them in 32 hole for the 26'' rim which I need for the Maverick hub.

Are there any other 50mm-ish rims out there that I don't know about that could work for this setup?

Here`s a fat bike with drilled rims, there are more pics of it in the `show us your Fatbike` thread.
