I just bought a Surly 1x1 off Craigslist and want to trade out the original 1x1 fork for a carbon fork to smooth out the ride a little. I'd like to be able to keep my current 2.5 Conti Mt Kings if possible though...Any suggestions or help is much appreciated! :)

Hmm… well you know, you won’t be able to run 26"x3" tires (mounted on 3" wide rims) if you downgrade to a cabron fibré fork.

That's a sweet 1x1!! I'm new to the Surly world of bikes, what's the deal with a 3" wide tire? What's the advantage or dis-advantage? Can you still ride singletrack with that wide of a tire? Would a rigid carbon fiber fork be considered a downgrade, if so, what can i do for a smoother ride?

We will kick you out of the Surly club and shave your eyebrows off. Keep the original fork, get a 35mmm to 65 mm wide rim, run tubeless, bumpy trail problem solved. I am running a 35 mm rim and a Nokian Gazaloddi 26 x 3.00" for the front of my 1x1 for the winter.
