At long last, the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) has proposed a rule change which will make it easier for parks to open trails for mountain biking. IMBA urges mountain bikers to register comments in support of the rule change. IMBA has been asking for this change since the 1990s. We now enter a 60-day commentary period to make the change official.

More information about what the rule change will achieve here:

This is not designed to plop freeride parks into places like Yosemite or Yellowstone ... it will streamline the needlessly complicated special regulations process that's currently required to open a NPS trail for biking. With a better system in place, mountain bikers can work with NPS staff to identify reasonable opportunities for shared-use trails.

Your message is well worded. I would encourage all mtn bikers concerned about trail access to write a postive note to the website listed for the comment period. It is a matter of the local park Supt. deciding if mtn biking is appropriate in their specific unit of the NPS instead of some convoluted process in Washington DC.

Everyone who puts in time on this site should weigh in on this comment and help IMBA out. Come on people. Weigh in to bring some equality to our public lands access process.
