Here's an e-mail that Brent Thompson, trail master of Bootleg Canyon, sent out:

Well here we go again!!

Boulder City budget cuts will cut Bootleg Canyon funding. The City Council plans to cut the budget for Bootleg Canyon infrastructure and maintenance January 6th at 9:00am's budget meeting. I would appreciate a letter to the council recommending not to cut the budget and to support Bootleg Canyon http://www.bcnv.org/citycouncil/

Thank you for the support

So there it is, Bootleg's funds are getting cut. Show your support and send e-mails to all the council members. The link is in the message above. Tell them how important Bootleg is to all of you and the city!

Mine's on the way....
Sent. Good luck Brent!
I find it interesting, that Boulder City will spend over $100K at a loss on their municipal golf course for the rich, but considers Bootleg as some kind of huge budget deficit.
Most or all of the costs are paid for by events at Bootleg.
Sent the following email to the mayor. If there is anything else I can do, please let me know. I'm willing to make a small donation.

By the way, I have a Bootleg riding trip planned in February (coming all the way from Iowa). Will the trails be open to ride?

Dear Mr. Tobler,

Just a quick note to let you know that I come to Boulder City at least once per year for one reason, and one reason only. To ride mountain bikes on the trails of Bootleg Canyon. I often bring my family with me, I'm coming in February with 3 friends who are also bike riders.

If Bootleg Canyon bike trails were to be lost to budget cuts or other reasons, I would probably no longer be spending my tourist dollars in your lovely city. And that would be a shame because I love it there.

A bit of demographic info about me: I'm 40 years old, married, 4 kids, work at Microsoft Corporation, live in Des Moines, Iowa.

My 1-2 trips to Boulder City each year are often the highlight of my winter season. Please help support Bootleg Canyon biking trails!

thank you so much

It appears there was some slight confusion in this thread. The thread was started by me, NOT Brent Thompson. I simply posted an e-mail that was sent out by him to myself and others. But still send your e-mails to the city council and even to the mayor using the link above! To answer your question BigD, I've not heard of any closures. If I hear something I'll let you know :)
Our DH, SD AND DS race the 4th Annual Mob in Mojave on 2-14 & 2-15-09 is most definitely on.
But yes please send your letters to show your support and the importance of the trails to you. They changed my life. I have driven from N.Y. State well over a dozen times just to ride Bootleg Canyon.
There is also another DH & SD race on St. Patrick's Day. The races and the donation box located at the restrooms will help the funding for the mountain bike park.
