Super Clyde and an EMTB

I am 6'5, 330, and all torso... I am considering upgrading my Fuse Expert 29 to a Full Sus bike, and i am gonna drop $5-6k, might as well look at some of the e-MTBs like the YT Decoy and SC Heckler. I like the YT Decoy 29's, priced right, decently spec'd, and will work with the awesome Fox Float X shock for my weight. Its got a Great Leverage Ratio at 2.4x something, i dont love Direct to Consumer though... For clarification, i currently also ride a Spec Creo SL EVO (A great lower Power gravel e-bike) so I am familiar with how they work, and the little bit of added power just on eco is great (I do 40 miles all the time on rides just in ECO).

Has any Cycle tried out some of the new modern e-MTB's and can chime in?

I rode a SC Heckler at Kanuga bike park a few weeks ago.

At 260, I was a little hesitant at first but the bike handled my weight well.

The battery left a lot to be desired though for my weight. I only got 4 trips to the top on trail mode and 3 half trips up. That’s about 6 miles of easy grade climbing.

The guy at the bike shop said the Bullet has the bigger battery and is really what bigger guys need.

Conversely, my buddy who also rode a Heckler, had ~40% battery left when mine died. He weighs about 160. So there is a significant advantage to riding one at a lower weight.

So at your weight, I’d get the absolute biggest battery I could find with the most efficient motor available.

This is rather interesting to hear but with a 504 battery that makes sense. With my CREO SL, Specialized advertises it as having about 80 miles of ECO mode for a normal rider, and I get about that exact mileage (usually between 73-80miles) but that motor is small and extremely efficient, obviously an MTB motor will pull WAY more nM/juice but i would have expected more, that is discouraging. The new Rocky Mountain eMTBs that just got announced/released look promising as well;

Thanks for your reply!!!
Although out of your price range you said I recently got a Kenevo SL and am in love with it. Shock is definitely soft weighing 275 lbs and am close to the max pressure which I avoid going right to the max. Waiting on volume spacers which are on backorder to test which hopefully help a little
I ride a Custom Trek Rail 7. Bike is amazing. I just run it in eco and tour modes so I can ride socially and not hold up my friends on climbs. I'm about your size and ride w/ guys 1.5-2x lighter than me. 625wh battery gets me 22-30 miles with 3-4000ft of climbing.

That battery will let you climb 4000 feet of trail on a charge in trail mode at 340lbs!?

Damn. I’m 80lbs less and I only got 2500 feet of climbing out of a Hekler (500wh)

Looking at your Sig line, as someone that has both a nice Accoustic bike, and a nice E-bike, which do you prefer and recommend?

I love and ride both, Regular bikes on more solo rides and eMTB when with friends. I enjoy half dying grinding up a 4 mile 2500ft climb, so I'll always have a regular bike. I hate making friends wait 30 minutes at the top of the climb for me so the eMTB has it's place too. If I've worked a 10hr day, too tired to ride, the eMTB can also help me get an extra ride in if I didn't have the energy to ride otherwise. If you have a lot of climbing in ur area, eMTB lets u climb in a lower HR zone like zone 2 or zone 3 working your base cardio better vs on the regular bike climbing where i'm near max HR when climbing in zone's 5&6 pushing your threshold power.. Helps you train differently. I'd recommend both If ur able to, If only one, an eMTB will let you ride farther and more often in less time yet will also give you a tough workout if you only use ECO and still ride the steeps...depending on emtb trail access in your area of course. If access is poor, regular bikes will always be great.
